The most significant reason for ulcers among competition horses is the stress of unnatural feeding practices.
Many of the industrial made feed supplements, which are part of the feeding regime; do promote Equine Gastric Ulcer.
Improper use of NSAID medicine, antibiotics and steroids may also contribute to new, or irritate existing stomach problems.
Clinical Indication of Gastric Problems
Foal
The most common symptoms in foals are diarrhea, colic, pot belly, poor growth, dull coat, grinding of teeth, excessive salvation, swollen glands under the jawbone, and interrupted nursing.
The adult horse
The first symptom of gastric problems in an adult horse is often stiffness in the neck and shoulder, problem with front vertebra joints, tension in the groins and problems with the knees.
After the horse develops a gastric ulcer the symptoms become much more noticeable.
Significant is a poor and dull coat, colic, weight loss, thyroid problems, increase of the saliva productions or dry mouth, swollen glands under the jaw bone and poor appetite.
Gastromin
Gastromin is a good solution without any side effect when the horse has indication of stomach problems.
Gastromin may be used as a daily supplement, without harmful side effects or fear of overdose. Gastromin will not test.
